Scientific Name: Juniperus virginiana


     Also known as Eastern Red Cedar, Red Cedar, Virginian Juniper, Eastern Juniper, Red Juniper. Native to Eastern North America, Southeastern Canada to the Gulf of Mexico and East of the Great Plains. It is an Evergreen Tree with an aromatic trunk and angleded or butteressed at the base and a narrow, compact and columnar crown.

Sometimes becoming broad and irregular. It is dense and slow growing and may never become more than a bush in poor soil. Ranging from 5 - 20 Meters tall (16 - 66 Feet). The oldest tree reported was from West Virginia and was 940 years old.

Scientific Name: Anthemis nobilis


     Chamaemelum nobile is from the Cupressaceae family, also known as Chamomile. It is a low perrinial plant that grows in dry fields, around gardens, and in cultivated areas in South America, Europe, and North America. It's synonym is Anthemis nobilis, and has other names such as: English Chamomile, Roman Chamomile, Ground Apple, Garden Chamomile, Low Chamomile, Mother's Daisy and Whig Plant.

C. nobile is used for making Chamomile using dried flowers for flavoring teas, or as a fragrance used in Aromatherapy. Chamomile has no known Medicinal Properties.

Scientific Name: Cinnamomum zeylanicum


     It is also called a true cinnamon tree, or Ceylon Cinnamon Tree. A small Evergreen Tree belonging to the Lauracae family, which is native to Sri Lanka. The inner bark of several Cinnamomum species is used to make cinnamon, but it is the C. Vernum that is preferred for certain recipes because it has a more subtler flavor.

Cinnamomum verum trees are 30-50 Feet tall and have an oblong shaped leaf. The flowers are arranged in panicles and have a greenish color and distict odor.

     Cymbopogon winterianus is from the Poaceae family. Common name java citronella, is a perennial aromatic plant from the family Poaceae, originating in western Malesia. Also known as lemongrass, barbed wire grass, silky heads, Cochin grass, Malabar grass, oily heads, and citronella grass or fever grass, from Asia, Africa, Australia and tropical island plants from the grass family.

     Cloves are the aromatic flower buds of a tree in the Myrtaceae family (Syzygium Aromaticum). Native to the Maluku Islands in Indonesia, and is commonly used as a spice. Cloves are available throught the year due to their different harvest seasons in different countries.

The Clove is an Evergreen Tree that grows 26-39 feet tall with large leaves and crimson flowers grouped in terminal clusters. The flower buds are a pale blue, then turn green, transitioning to a bright red when ready to harvest.

Scientific Name: Boswellia carterii


     Boswellia Carterii is a tree from the Burseraceae family. It's the main tree in the genus Boswellia from where the dried resin sap is harvested. It is native to the Arabian Peninsula and the African Horn. It grows on rocky slopes and in ravines. In Somalia, Frankincense is mainly harvested in Bari and East of the Sanaag regions, being most prevelant in Eastern and North Somalia. They start producing resin when they are 8 to 10 years old. Resin is extracted by making a small incision in the trunk.
The Binomial Name Boswellia sacra is from Frederich August Bluckinger, (A Swiss Pharmacist, Chemist, and Botanist).

     Zingiber Officinale (also called Ginger), is a flowering plant whose rhizome, ginger, or ginger root, is widely used as a spice and in folk medicine. Ginger is in the family Zingiberaceae, which includes tumeric, cardamom, and galangal. Ginger originated in Maritime Southeast Asia, and likely was domesticated first by the Austronesian Peoples. Jasminum is a Latinized term form of the Persian word 'yasmin' for sweetly scented plants. Grandiflorum is a Latin term meaning large, showy flowers.

     The (Citrus limon) Lemon, is a small Evergreen Tree from the flowering plant family Rutaceae. It is native to Asia, and India, Northern Myanmar, or China. The tree's yellow fruit is used for culinary and non-culinary uses. It is used primarirly for it's juice, for both culinary and cleansing uses. The pulp and rind are also used for baking, and the sour taste of lemon is used for soft drinks and is also a key ingredient for lemonade.

The history of the lemon is unknown. It is thought to enter Europe and Southern Italy no later than the second century AD. Lemons were once the commercial source for citric acid, however fermentation based processes have replaced them.

     Cymbopogon is any grass in the lemongrass family. Citronella grass grows 6 1/2 feet tall and has a magneta colored base stem. Lemongrass, also Citronella grass as it's known, is used in soaps, insect repellant, sprays, candles, and Aromatherapy. Citronella grass is also used for culinary purposes.

Scientific Name: Commiphora myrrha


     Commiphora myrrha, also called Myrrh, African Myrrh, Somali Myrrh, and Common Myrrh. It is a tree in the Buseraceae family. The tree is used primarily for the production of Myrrh, a resin made from the tree sap. The word 'mur' in Arabic means bitter. The resin is called oleoresin.

Myrrh is also an anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, and an anti-pest, and can be used for fumigation and oral use. Myrhh was commonly used to treat worms, wounds, and sepsis.

The tree grows to about 13 feet tall at an altitude of 4,270 ft with a yearly mean rainfall of 11 inches. It does best in thin soil, with areas of limestone.
